Bringing in the New Year can be truly motivating when we set our intentions out clearly and realistically.

One goal we always set on our end is improving our skin care habits. We consider a great skin care routine a great self care routine. And as we can all imagine, self care starts from the inside out. Here are a few of our suggestions when it comes to setting healthy and intentional New Year’s resolutions for a healthier future.

Being Intentional About Your Overall Health

We want to encourage you to be intentional in the new year about your overall health. This means setting up a realistic and healthy diet plan, which breaks down breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the week with ingredients you should include in your daily diet.

Some ingredients you should eat daily include:

  • Leafy greens
  • Lean meats / legumes/ beans / fish / seafood
  • Nuts and seeds
  • A colorful variety of fruits and vegetables
  • Yogurt / oatmeal / smoothies

Your diet directly affects your mental health. And your mental health is everything. That’s why we’d also love to encourage you to incorporate activities into your weekly schedule that you enjoy and that make you feel good. This can include going for walks, meditating, treating yourself to a massage, swimming or cooking a beautiful and healthy meal for yourself. The list is endless and its benefits are priceless.

Ingredients to Avoid this Coming Year

You can’t expect immediate results from topical products when you have greasy, salty and acidic foods in your diet. The two are antagonists. Your gut health is everything when it comes to your skin, health and mood. Consider that every time you’re tempted to eat something that looks and smells delicious but is actually harmful to your skin and health. Try to see those deep fried dishes not through your taste buds but through your skin, intestines and gut. That always helps us avoid processed foods, and any other harmful, non-life-giving ingredients.

Drink Plenty of Water

We should all be drinking more water. Not only will our skin and hair benefit from this life giving resource, but so will our overall health both physically and mentally. We want to reduce anxiety-inducing drinks like coffee, sodas, and sugary drinks and replace them with nourishing liquids like water and herbal teas. If there ever was a time to get into herbal teas it’s winter. Get out and explore those delicious aromas that can enrich your life and boost your wellbeing.

Takeaway

Great skin starts from the inside out. You have it in you to resist those harmful ingredients and start making healthier choices for your mind, body and soul. What you ingest, your skin will manifest. And don't forget a little effort and exercise can truly go a long way!
